BMM Rises From the Dust.
By Dennis Salvage
I guess I'll start by telling you how BMM came about.
I
joined CR's ride-a-long program, under Downalap’s tutelage, and ran the
open series...World Racing, pre-Timeless Wednesday nights (GNS, Cup,
IROC), getting as much seat time as I could. . Being very new to on-line
racing and having no setups, I spent most of my time riding high on the
track, letting everybody by, saying "dsalvage says you're welcome". I
was hoping that someone would invite me to join a team. I needed help
with setups and racing tips (still do!). In the welcome letter I
received from CR, there was mention of the different levels of
experience and talent on the teams at CR, so I thought there was a
chance I might get asked to join a team. The invitation never came and I
figured I just wasn't good enough, so I remained an independent. I
received letters of encouragement and some tips about setting up a car
and driving a race from guys like Timbercats, LostOkie and Slowandsteady.
Eventually, I decided to try my hand at a full season. I joined the
Christian Truck Series in its inaugural season and had a blast! In one
of the earlier races in the season I had a mishap in the first turn of
the first lap of the race. I was behind Cubfan24, accelerating for the
green flag when something happened to cause the field to check up and I
clipped Ron in the left rear (I was trying to avoid him by going low)
and sent him into the outside wall, head first. I felt awful, but we
weren't going very fast, so I was hopeful that the damage to his truck
would be minimal. It wasn't. His engine died. I put him out of the race
before he could get through the first turn! I finished the race and the
next day I visited the forums to write an apology and there was an
apology from Ron!
He
was apologizing for using words of anger towards me. I missed his chat
after the wreck, so I had no idea what he was talking about. I asked him
to email me an explanation and from there we ironed things out and a
friendship began.
It turned out that Ron was in the same boat as me... a lone wolf with
little help. I was discussing CR with my wife Patricia over dinner one
evening, bemoaning the fact that neither myself nor Ron had been offered
a spot on a team when she said, "Why don't you and Ron start your own
team?" ...Doip!!!!
I
was reluctant at first, because I held offices (Vice-President and
President) in a few art societies in Las Vegas and felt that I am not
much of a leader, since I didn't do much, and stirred the pot more that
anything, but after giving it some thought I mustered up the courage to
ask Ron if he wanted to start a team and he said yes! I was floored! I
expected him to say that he was too busy or something like that.
Surprise, surprise!
So
began Black Mountain Motorsports. It was Cubbie and I... trying to work
together on the track and suffering horrendous luck, getting caught up
in wrecks and causing a few ourselves! J
I announced the forming of our new team on the forums and that we were
wide open to anyone who cared to join us. I received a request to join
the team from Den (Alton03). I was thrilled! He is one of the better
drivers at CR, good and fast!
After a while I just started asking as many new guys as I could to join
us. Mikec, LazyJ and Nitehawk were next. Then came Tmiddle, John F.
Harding, GKendall, TR Young, and Zerodog.
